Hi everybody. I've been a long time reader of these forums but this is my first post. Thanks in advance for any replies I get.
I recently submitted my entry for the 2010 Black Orchid Novella contest put on by the Wolfe Pack and Afred Hitchcock magazine. Whiling writing it, there where many times I knew that I could have been more efficient at putting words on the page if only I had a better way of accessing, searching and viewing the information I had compiled during the planning of my novella, When It Rains, It Pours. I looked around and after deciding that none of the novel writing software packages would suit my needs I started building one. I've been a programmer and web developer for over 10 years now and I'm sure I can produce the product that I've envisioned. I'm calling the project LitLift. What I'm wondering is if there are any features that all of you would like to see in a novel writing software package, or a feature that you've seen but you think could be improved?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Brad

Brad, I was a long-time software designer and, like you, felt the need to better organize. I used FileMaker database software (Mac/Windows) to build collections of biographies, plot elements, bibliographies, and so on. It's extensive and I've thought to make it available on the web, but get to wrapped up in other projects to seal it off.
One thing I experimented with and might interest you was a multi-dimensional creativity/brainstorming module, something like Inspiration and similar programs. The end result looked terrific and operated to spec, but I concluded my brain doesn't work the way those programs are supposed to work. Still, I think there's a market for creativity software.

Well, I do all my first drafts using Luddite Word Processor 2.0, and it does everything I need, plus, I'm sure, things I haven't yet thought of, so I can be of no help. But I'm always interested in looking at new software.

I write non-fiction and use DavidRM Software's The Journal. It is not expensive and works for me.
