WINNERS AND NOMINEES: ANTHONY, ARTHUR ELLIS, DERRINGER & MACAVITY AWARDS
We're delighted to have two stories nominated for the Anthony Award : Toni L.P. Kelner's "Skull and Cross-Examinations" (February 2008) and Kristine Kathryn Rusch's "The Secret Lives of Cats" (July 2008). Read the stories on our website and pick your favorites before the winners are announced at the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention in October.
Among the short list for the 2009 Arthur Ellis awards, given by the Crime Writers of Canada at their annual banquet in June, are veteran writer James Powell ("Clay Pillows," June 2008) and newcomer Amelia Symington ("An Ill Wind," Sept/Oct 2008), who debuted last year in our Department of First Stories. Winners will be announced at the CWC banquet in June.
The Short Mystery Fiction Society has bestowed honors on two EQMM writers: Clark Howard, who won the first annual Edward D. Hoch Memorial Golden Derringer Award for Lifetime Achievement, and O'Neil De Noux, whose story "Too Wise" (11/08) won the Best Novelette category.
Already nominated for a Thriller Award, Tom Piccirilli's "Between the Dark and the Daylight" (November 2008) is also a finalist for the Macavity Award. Mystery Readers International will announce the Macavity winners at Bouchercon.
2008 AGATHA NOMINEES ANNOUNCED
The Malice Domestic convention has announced the nominees for the 2008 Agatha Awards.
EQMM is pleased to have received two nominations:

SPECIAL EVENT: WOMEN OF MYSTERY @ NYC'S KGB BAR
Join EQMM editors, authors, and fans on Sunday, June 14th, to celebrate women in crime fiction, as authors Meredith Anthony, S. J. Rozan, Sarah Weinman, and Elizabeth Zelvin read from their latest EQMM short stories at KGB Bar's Sunday Night Fiction series. More information can be found here or on our Facebook event page.
Meredith Anthony made her fiction debut in EQMM's Department of First Stories in 2006, but has been writing professionally for years as a copywriter, greeting card creator, humorist, and screenwriter. She co-authored the novel Ladykiller with her husband, thriller writer Lawrence Light.
S. J. Rozan's eleventh novel, The Shanghai Moon, was published earlier this year. Her work has won the Edgar, Shamus, Anthony, Nero, and Macavity awards for Best Novel and the Edgar for Best Short Story. A former architect in a practice that focussed on police stations, firehouses, and zoos, S. J. Rozan lives in lower Manhattan.
Sarah Weinman is a freelance writer living in New York. She is nominated for a 2009 Anthony Award for Special Service to the mystery field for her blog Confessions of an Idiosyncratic Mind, which covers crime fiction and the publishing industry. Her short fiction has appeared in many print and online crime fiction periodicals, as well as in several anthologies from Akashic Books and Busted Flush Press.
Elizabeth Zelvin is a New York City psychotherapist whose latest novel, Death Will Help You Leave Him, will be out from St. Martin's in October 2009. It follows Death Will Get You Sober, first in the series about recovering alcoholic Bruce Kohler. Her first short story was nominated for an Agatha Award.
